Claremont Trio In December 2003, the Claremont Trio was announced as the first recipient of the Kalichstein-Laredo-Robinson International Trio Award. The Award provides an extensive tour of 20 major United States venues including the Chamber Music Society of Detroit and other prestigious presenters such as Carnegie Hall, the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Cincinnati Chamber Music Society, and the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts. In addition, and as a benefit of the Award, the Trio’s debut CD of the Mendelssohn Trios was released on the Arabesque label in September 2004. During the 2004-2005 season, the Claremont Trio returns to prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall and Merkin Concert Hall. They will make their debut appearance at Wolf Trap, where they will receive the Wolf Trap Foundation's Debut Artist Award. In addition the Trio will take part in the Guggenheim Museum's Works and Process series, showcasing "String Band", which was written for them in 2002 by Mason Bates. After winning the 2001 Young Concert Artists International Auditions, the Claremont Trio made its acclaimed New York debut at the 92nd Street Y. The Trio also debuted in Boston at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and in Washington, DC at the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The Claremont Trio holds the Helen F. Whitaker Chamber Music Chair of Young Concert Artists. Highlights of last season included a debut at the Kennedy Center and on the Alexander Schneider Series at the New School, NY. The Trio performed in the prestigious concert series at the American Academy in Rome. They also collaborated with Peter Martins, director of the New York City Ballet, on a ballet of "Café Music" by Paul Schoenfield. During recent summers the Claremont Trio has appeared at the Mostly Mozart, Caramoor, Ravinia, Bard, Norfolk and Moab Festivals. The Trio frequently performs the Beethoven Triple Concerto with orchestras such as the Virginia Symphony, the Pacific Symphony, and the Dayton Philharmonic. They have also performed with many distinguished guest artists including Toby Appel, Martha Katz, Ida Kavafian, Nokuthula Ngwenyama, and Richard Young. In 2002, the Claremont Trio traveled to Serbia, Bosnia, and Slovenia as part of a cultural exchange co-sponsored by the U.S. State Department and Carnegie Hall. The Trio participated in the 2001 Isaac Stern Chamber Music Workshops at Carnegie Hall, and was presented by Carnegie Hall on its Alexander Schneider Chamber Music Series. The trio has also appeared at the UCLA Center for the Performing Arts, Columbia University's Miller Theatre, the Harvard Musical Association in Boston, the Dame Myra Hess Memorial Concert Series in Chicago, and in the British and U.S. Virgin Islands. The Claremont Trio was featured on NHK Television in Japan, and in a segment for “Martha Stewart Living.” They are also frequently heard on radio stations around the world including New York's WQXR, Boston's WGBH, Chicago's WFMT, and Australia's ABC. Committed to expanding the standard repertoire, the Claremont Trio actively seeks out new and unknown works. They have premiered a number of pieces commissioned for them including compositions by Daniel Kellogg, Mason Bates, and Hillary Zipper. The Trio members are also extensively involved in music education and have been recognized for their engaging and interactive programs for students of all ages. Twin sisters Emily Bruskin and Julia Bruskin formed the Trio with Donna Kwong in 1999 at the Juilliard School, where they studied with Robert McDonald and Joseph Kalichstein.
